– Top 10 Books I’m No Longer Interested In –
This one was a bit of a hard one this week as I went through my Goodreads TBR shelf and got rid of anything I was no longer interested in reading. So a lot of the books you see below are ones that I’ve managed to dig out from the back of my brain to remember!
1. Anything by J.K Rowling
It pains me to say this but I’ve pretty much completely eradicated anything to do with J.K from my life and it makes me really sad. Harry Potter was such a huge part of my childhood and I would have poured over books like A History of Magic just a few years ago. However, given J.K’s conduct over the past few years, including supporting Johnny Depp, becoming a complete sell out, and even sharing tweets from young people who have said something anti-J.K to encourage her following to tear them apart, means that I have completely disowned her. No matter how much I loved Harry Potter I simply cannot support her work anymore and she has completely ruined the franchise for me anyway.
2. Anything by Kazuo Ishiguro
I loved Never Let Me Go so much that I started building a little Ishiguro collection. I read both When We Were Orphans and The Remains of the Day but found them so incredibly boring that I just can’t bring myself to ever pick up another Ishiguro novel.
3. Turtles All The Way Down – John Green
Similarly to Ishiguro, I had a right little John Green collection going on a few years back but completely fell out of love with his writing as I read more of his books. That’s right, reading more of John Green’s books ruined my love for him rather than developing my love! By the time I got to reading TFIOS and Will Grayson, Will Grayson I had finally clocked that ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME and I just felt like the plots were being reused over and over again. So, no interest in Turtles All The Way Down for me.
4. The Hazel Wood – Melissa Albert
I had been really excited to read The Hazel Wood back when everyone was getting their hands on ARCs. I hadn’t been lucky enough to get approved for an ARC for it, which turned out to be a relief actually once the reviews started pouring out and I saw how many people hadn’t actually enjoyed it! Soon after I removed it from my TBR and saved myself the trouble of reading it.
5. 27 Hours – Tristina Wright
This was one book that I was livid that I didn’t approved for an ARC of it, but once again now I’m really glad because oh boy, talk about Death of the Author. A super queer space story? Hell yeah. An author who is accused of sexual assault and then causes a load of shit in response to said accusation? Hell no. Soon after Wright’s retaliation to the allegations, I removed 27 Hours from my TBR as it’s not an author I was to be supporting at all.
There is nothing wrong with these last 5 books or authors (as far as I’m aware) but after languishing on my TBR for 6 years I decided to finally remove them as my interest in them all had completely waned, or in some cases (like Fight Club) I had started reading the first few chapters but couldn’t get into the book at the time and have no interest in trying again.
Red Rocket Panda 
Since I’m a huge fan of witches, any book with the word witch in the title is practically an auto-buy for me. So I was actually really excited for The Black Witch to come out, which sounds ridiculous now. I loved Veronika Decides to Die so much when I read back in like 2008, but at this point I can’t imagine wanting to pick up a Paolo Coelho novel.

Haha no, that’s cute! I have a friend who is a really big witch fan so her bedroom was full of witch related books and products xD

I’m so upset by JK Rowling’s conduct lately, especially since I absolutely ADORE the HP books 😦 I didn’t like Fahrenheit 451 so I would say you’re not missing much there!

Oh JK Rowling…so much disappointment there. I’m just glad I didn’t get any HP related tattoos. A good friend of mine has the Deathly Hallows on her collarbone and a huge Hufflepuff house shield on her back. 😦

oh my god, I completely hadn’t even thought about that! I actually came very close to doing so a few years back but didn’t have enough money at the time so never got round to it. The only one I have is a Perks of being a Wallflower quote!
With the original books though I do try and segregate JK off. I refuse to support her work any more but still feel so attached to the original books, especially as a devout Gryffindor 😉 It’s such a shame that she tainted something so important to an entire generation though

I actually got approved for 27 Hours last summer and I started reading it but DNFed like halfway through it. At this point, I doubt I will ever pick it up again and the whole story around the author has a lot to do with it. I was really happy about the queer rep in that book, but it has other issues, so .. yeah .. I don’t think we are missing out too much?

I’ve heard a few people have a similar experience with 27 Hours! What were the other issues that the book had, just out of interest?

The colonial aspect was at least questionable, but I also didn’t particularly enjoy the pacing.

I had basically the same problem with John Green. The first book or two I read by him I enjoyed, and then it all went downhill from there. I’m intrigued by Turtles All the Way Down, but I don’t want to chance it.
I loooove Fahrenheit 451! I only read it once, but I read it in one sitting. It’s a relatively short book and I literally couldn’t put it down. Maybe you can consider giving it a shot someday in the far future. 🙂

I just mentioned to someone else that one of my friends who feels the same about John Green as me read Turtles all the way down recently and said she actually really enjoyed it and was surprised that she did! So, if you’re going to chance reading another one, maybe that’s the one to go for 😉
I knooowwww. I think it had originally been on a list of some big name books that I really wanted to read, but it had sat on my list for 5 years and I hadn’t made any moves towards reading it so ended up trashing it instead. I wouldn’t be averse to picking it up again in the future though especially if it’s a quick read!

That’s what I’ve been hearing, too! I think because he deals more with mental illness in Turtles, it might be more up my alley. I guess I’ll have to think about it a bit more before I decide. 🙂
And yes! If you ever have a few hours and want to pick up a quick read, F451 is a good one to go with.

Sometimes I’ll go through my Goodreads TBR shelves and the books that I own and discard the books that I don’t want to read anymore, so it was hard for me to remember anything for the TTT post this week. I ended up skipping it. It’s interesting seeing everyone else’s lists though. I have a love/hate for John Green books to be honest. I read TFIOS and really loved it. I’ve tried to read his other books or short stories, but I just can’t seem to like them as much. I have Turtles All the Way Down, but it’s still sitting on my shelf unread. I’m kind of scared to read anything else he writes even though I want to. I seen some of the things floating around on Tristina Wright one Twitter yesterday. It was pretty crazy! I wouldn’t be able to support an author after that either.

Haha ikr. That’s exactly the issue I’ve had! I was tempted to skip this week too because I was finding it hard to remember what used to be on my list, but thankfully could at least remember some of the more controversial ones and then some of the more popular books I trashed!
I’d say give Turtles All the Way Down a try, especially if you own it. I have a friend who feels the exact way about John Green as me and she got TATWD in a kindle sale at Christmas, and she said she actually really enjoyed it which surprised her!

I remember I had to read Remains of the Day not once but TWICE in college and I hated it so much both times. I was so bitter about having to pay for an education that demanded I read that crap book twice!

haahaaa. I know right! I was SO sad when I read it because it was just incredibly dry. I cannot imagine the pain of having to study it!

SO dry! I hear good things about his other books but I couldn’t ever bring myself to touch them after suffering that one twice.

It’s such a shame because I enjoyed Never Let Me Go a LOT but then it’s absolutely nothing like the rest of his books. It’s so bizarre!

As with you, reviews kind of turned me off when it came to The Hazel Wood. And then it popped up in my subscription box.. So maybe I’ll give it a read after all? Time will tell, but it isn’t very high on my priority list, at all.
Books I’m not interested in any more / simply have unhauled this month? James Dashner and Jay Asher’s books. Byebye, now. I couldn’t get them out of my home quickly enough, to be honest. [Also glad I didn’t get approved for the ARC of 27 Hours.]

I was always very, very uneasy with 13 Reasons Why anyway. Lots of my friends tried to get me to watch/read it but as I have sensitive history with the subject matter I didn’t feel safe to enter back into that world. I am SO GLAD I made that decision now.
Really, really annoyingly my mum had literally bought me the entire set of the Maze Runner as it was on offer just a few days before the revelations about Dashner. I’ve decided to read the books anyway (just because I have a lotttttt of anxiety about wasting money) but after that won’t be buying or reading anything of his in future!

Definitely understandable! For people with a very close connection to the subject, it makes sense to stay clear of it. I’d even encourage them to not watch/read it since things like that can easily bring people back to dark places and that’s so not something we want.
Ooh, that sucks! I get it though. I’d probably read them as well then. A friend of mine was just in the middle of the second book when the accusations popped up and we had a whole conversation about whether or not she should read on but.. If you feel like you want to and are already so invested in the story.. Just read them. You can always unhaul them later on if you want to. [Like, if I’d refuse to watch certain movies because of actors, I’d have to unhaul A LOT of my dvd’s and I really don’t want to do that.]
