Book Tag | The Book Blogger Test

I was tagged by Destiny for this a little while ago but have been terrible at keeping up with my posting schedule but I finally have my answers!

1) Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog.
2) Answer the questions asked on this post — don’t stress it’s quick!
3) Nominate and notify some peeps. 5 preferred.

1. What are your top 3 bookish pet peeves?

  1. Terrible romances – enemies to lovers, insta-love, pointless romances
  2. Not being approved for ARCs by publishers for authors that I adore and who I am constantly talking about/sharing their books/encouraging others to read their work but people who have never heard of/read the book/author get approved 😦 😦
  3. When sellers on Amazon missell their secondhand books as “very good condition” but it turns up with rips and creases!

2. Name a perfect reading spot:

My perfect reading spot is basically what Destiny described in her post. I’d want a reading spot in a room with beautiful big windows and doors that let in lots of light and which look out onto water or woodlands (or even just a lovely garden), a comfy sofa with good back and leg support, lots and lots of fresh green plants, and a room that is spacious with bookshelves that aren’t overcrowded.

3. Give 3 reading confessions:

  1. I hardly ever re-read books – I have a really good memory so I often remember too many details to enjoy books over and over again. I much prefer discovering and reading new books
  2. I often get asked by others how I find the time to read so many books – I’m very, very lucky to be able to work part-time (weekends only) so I have lots of time during the week when I can just sit around and read!
  3. I really like reading books written by debut and/or independently published authors – I often find that their writing is much better and more enjoyable than some very popular authors that everyone always talks about

4. When was the last time you cried during a book?

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silver (you can read my review for it here). Obviously, I knew what was coming but it didn’t stop me from crying my eyes out anyway.

5. Number of books on your bedside table?

We don’t have a bedside table and even if I did I don’t think I would like to keep many books there as I like my sleeping space to be clean and uncluttered. I usually have a stack of library books on my desk though and at the moment I only have three! Sabriel by Garth Nix, The Stone Gods by Jeanette Winterson, and Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray.

6. Favorite reading snack?

I don’t really eat when I read, usually because I’m concentrating so much on my book that I forget to read (or read before bed in which case it’s too late to eat!) I like to drink while I read though and I usually drink either English Breakfast Tea in my Special Mugs or a little cup of Diet Coke

7. What are 3 books you’d recommend to anyone?

I usually always try to adapt books to suit an individual’s reading tastes, but I do have some books which I am always trying to shove in everyone’s faces because I love them so much:

  1. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
  2. Failure to Communicate by Kaia Sønderby
  3. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

8. Provide a picture of your bookshelf:

Haha, what a time to ask me for a picture for my bookshelf. You might know that we are currently in the middle of moving house so pretty much all of my books are packed now, apart from a few strays which might not be going with us!

9. How much do books mean to you in 3 words?

Escapism. Representation. Possibilities.

10. Biggest reading secret?

I don’t really have any big reading secrets… at least not anything that immediately jumps to my mind! I’m quite open and opinionated about things so all my feels already exist out on the internet 😀

  1. I feel like enemies to lovers is a pretty broad category tbh. Like, there’s a difference between being literal enemies and being really nasty to each other, or “just” being rivals/having differing views at first, for example. It also depends on how much time passes between the two points (and obviously, it’s probably more healthy if it’s actually enemies->friends->lovers).

I feel you on the ARCs, I’m currently upset because I keep screaming about the Murderbot Diaries but I can’t even request the third book on NetGalley (even though I was approved for the second) :/

  2. No reading snacks? Fascinating, i say, while having my midnight snack in bed 😂. I’m a savage, so don’t mind me…

That reading window looks awesome. I could totally see myself chilling there w my cat.

      1. Oh i envy your skill!
        I think i’m a cactus of some sort cuz if people don’t remind me, i sometimes don’t drink. Unless it’s coffee… 😀

  3. This is such a great tag!! I hope you don’t mind if Im tagging myself! What, I love enemies-lover and best friend-lover trope haha, And your perfect reading spot is indeed perfect. Aaah how lucky you are to only have to work in the weekend, mine is everyday! I barely had the time to read anymore, that’s sucks. Good luck with your moving!!

  4. I love your answers! Especially this one:

“Not being approved for ARCs by publishers for authors that I adore and who I am constantly talking about/sharing their books/encouraging others to read their work but people who have never heard of/read the book/author get approved 😦 😦”

SO RELATABLE. It’s so frustrating and it hurts my heart whenever I get turned down for an author who I KNOW I have convinced a LOT of people to check out the work of, and then I see someone get an ARC and they haven’t heard of the author or have 1- or 2-starred everything they’ve read by them. I try to keep myself from getting too upset but it happens. 😦

  5. I love reading these responses. Good luck on your response. Today I tried eating and reading and had a tomato chocolate milk soup. I will stick to snacks from now on.
