Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly book tag that was run by The Broke and the Bookish but has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provides a different bookish theme those deep-seated desires to list! Anyone is welcome to join in on their blog, in the comments or any other way.
I’ve gotten out of the habit of doing TTT lately but quite liked this weeks topic on the longest books I’ve ever read. At first, I thought I hadn’t read many long books but looking through my Goodreads ‘read’ shelf revealed that I’ve actually read quite a few books that are 500+ pages! As there are a few books in series where the authors are determined to kill their readers with books as big as bricks, I’ve only included the longest book in the series to prevent this list being dominated by A Song of Ice and Fire, Harry Potter, and The Illuminae Files.
Children of Blood and Bone – 525 pages
Middlesex – 529 pages
The Amber Spyglass – 548 pages
The Girl Who Played with Fire – 569 pages
Fingersmith – 582 pages
American Gods – 635 pages
Gemina – 659 pages
Breaking Dawn – 756 pages
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – 870 pages
A Feast for Crows – 1,061 pages
Ooh, nice post! It’s funny but I tend to forget how long certain books were like OotP or Breaking Dawn, because as a kid and teen I LOVED really long books. Meanwhile as an adult, I don’t reach for anything above 500 pages terribly often and I don’t know why that is, but I need to fix it. 😂

Haha thanks! It felt nice to join in with TTT again. At first I almost didn’t do this week’s because I was convinced that I haven’t read very many long books, but clearly I have, I had just forgotten how huge they are!
I was definitely the same. I used to love reading big books but not so much as an adult, I remember picking up Illuminae for the first time and being like DAMN, RIP me, but it’s ok because most of it is just the layout :’)

Oooh yeah, the Illuminae books are a good example of how every now and then, you find a book with a massive page count that still flies by!

American Gods is over 600 pages? Damn. I haven’t read that one but now I’m scared 😀

I really liked Feast for Crows and Girl Who Played With Fire. Neither of them actually felt that long! 😀

The Girl who Played with Fire took me FOREVER. It wasn’t my kind of book at all and the length of the book didn’t help haha. I’m glad you liked it so much though.

Seeing your list, I think I’d find the same thing on my goodreads – so many books are longer than I imagine. Especially OotP! Though I definitely remember Breaking Dawn being a beast. 😂

I always forget how big books are. I knew OotP would be on there as its my favourite one and I always remember it being huge, but didn’t realize how long the other ones were!

Good luck with ASOIAF!

ASOIAF are such bricks. And it is easy to forget how big the later twilight books were.

Haha I know! I ended up getting completely burned out from ASOIAF as I read them all back to back, all the way up to a Dance with Dragons Part 1 and had to give up because I felt so sick of GoT

I still need to read Children of Blood and Bone. It was one of my most anticipated books and I have yet to get around to reading it, ahh! So many books, so little time. The bigger books don’t help with that either, haha. 😛

It took me ages to get round to reading it as well but it was definitely worth it!
