E3 2019 | Microsoft Highlights

Yesterday I shared my highlights of the EA Play live-stream from E3 2019. Today I’m catching up on yesterday’s presentations; Microsoft and Bethesda. Usually, I give no cares about the Microsoft presentation. I don’t own an Xbox and usually find the Microsoft presentations hilariously over the top with their obsessive focus on cars, sports and first-person shooters. However, as Playstation isn’t in attendance this year I thought I’d give the Microsoft presentation another go and actually kind of enjoyed it? Don’t get me wrong, there was still A LOT of shooting games (mostly of the undead variety) but there was definitely a lot less reliance on pew-pew vroom-vroom games (as I like to call them).

As always, Microsoft likes to bring a lot to the table and, as someone who doesn’t have an Xbox, not all of it was very relevant and/or exciting for me. They announced a lot of stuff that would probably be exciting for Xbox players (Project Scarlett announcements, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller with more customizable features, and Xbox Game Pass news) that I won’t go into, I’ll just give you a quick snap shot into some of the games that piqued my interest.

The Outer Worlds

This isn’t our first look at The Outer Worlds at E3 but I was very excited to see a new  trailer of it during the Microsoft presentation. It also made me laugh to myself because at first I didn’t recognize it was The Outer Worlds, wondering “ooh, is this something to do with Fallout… no wait, Bioshock?” The fact that The Outer Worlds has that kind of aesthetic is what I’m living for though.

We also got a release date of October 25th 2019 which I am SUPER hyped for. I’m going to need to get saving as this is one I would love to play once its released.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Again, this isn’t new to E3 this year but we got a new Ori and the Will of the Wisps gameplay trailer which gave me all of the feels. I adore the Ori series, having played Ori and the Blind Forest and fallen in love with it, and I can’t wait to play the sequel; complete with owl baby!

We also now have a release date for Ori and the Will of the Wisps – February 11th 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077

No doubt you will have saw the internet SCREAMING about Cyberpunk 2077, not necessarily because of the game itself but we were surprised with the inclusion of a character in the game played by Keanu Reeves and his presence on the Microsoft E3 stage. We finally got a proper look at the game as well as a release date for April 16th 2020, the day after my birthday!

The discourse around Cyberpunk 2077 on Twitter has been really bothering me as most people seem to have had one of two reactions: endless screaming over the game and/or Keanu Reeves or trashing the game and/or and accusing people who are excited about the game as having forgotten about transphobic “joke” by CD Projekt’s Twitter account. Don’t get me wrong, I have some major criticisms over the game (like… hello, clearly CD Projekt needs to be read some postcolonial, queer, feminist and disabled cyberpunk literature) and as a trans person there’s no way I have forgotten about that joke, but I can also be excited about the game as well?

line break

Halo Infinite

Lastly, a new, in-depth trailer was shown for Halo Infinite. Growing up, I missed out on playing the Halo games because they were “for boys” so a lot of the things that people are excited about has gone right over my head but the trailer was still pretty exciting and I’d be interested in catching up with the rest of the series

We have a release window of “Holiday 2020” so I’m sure we’ll be seeing much more of Halo Infinite coming between now and then.
