It has been a damn while since I did my last WWW Wednesday (over a month) and I almost missed it today because I somehow forgot today is Wednesday? Luckily I have remembered just in time so I am here to share my progress with you all (now that I actually have some progress to share!)

Currently Reading/Playing

I picked up a postcard of Music & Malice at YALC because the cover is so gorgeous and I happened upon a review copy of it that someone donated to the book swap so immediately grabbed it. I started reading it today and although I really love the New Orleans inspired setting, I have some concerns over the depiction of black characters in the book and the way the book has been written by a white author. I’m going to forge on with the rest of the book so that I can get a better idea of how things might develop but there are some definite red flags popping up at the moment and I’m only 30 pages in!

I ordered a copy of BoTW with some vouchers I had hoarded since Christmas after seeing the announcement for BoTW 2 at E3. I’ve never played or been interested in a Zelda (or Link) game before, but had been assured by friends that BoTW is very different from previous games. I’ve played just under 10 hours so far and am really enjoying it!

Recently Finished

I finished reading The Last of the Wine last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it though it did take me almost a month to finish the book! I wrote a little mini-review on Goodreads if you want to check out my thoughts about it. The overall gist is that Renault’s writing is very much an acquired taste but really suits the classical Greek time period and her writing lends a strange authenticity to the setting. It captures interesting intricacies of life in Athens and how m/m relationships could work in Athenian society.

I didn’t get my copy of Heartstopper Vol. 2 until the first day of YALC so sadly couldn’t read it in time before meeting Alice Oseman but I read it as soon as I got back to the hotel that evening. I think I loved Vol. 2 even more than Vol. 1, which I didn’t think was possible. The Heartstopper series kills my heart dead. I love Nick and Charlie so much, and enjoyed the focus on Nick as he works through his romantic attraction to Charlie and explores what Bisexuality might mean for him. Nick is my absolute soft boy. I need more Heartstopper STAT.

Next Read/Play

I was lucky enough to get a seat at the packed Jim Kay panel at YALC this weekend and hadn’t realized that he did the artwork for the illustrated version of A Monster Calls. I loved hearing about Jim Kay’s work and how candid he was about his experiences of working as an illustrator, and it made me want to go home and immediately pick up my copy of A Monster Calls so I can see more of his beautiful work.
