Autistic Pride | Spotlight: Kaia Sønderby

Today is Autistic Pride Day!!

Even though I do a little something for LGBTQ+ Pride most years, whether it’s attending Pride events or reading LGBTQ+ books throughout the month, I haven’t ever taken any steps to celebrate Autistic Pride even though it’s a really important day. Pride events are all too often geared towards non-Autistic people with lots of loud music, too many people, and absolutely no Autistic representation. Even within the book community, Autistic representation during Pride month is severely lacking so I wanted to shine the spotlight on one of my favourite Autistic queer series – Xandri Corelel – by Kaia Sønderby

Mailbox Monday | Writing with anxiety + catch up

MailboxMonday

Hey friends! Hope that everyone has been having a lovely time since the last Mailbox Monday a month ago. I haven’t been able to post Mailbox Monday as regularly as I would have liked so I wanted to bring you a little update to you all today as to what’s been going on and also talk about something that’s been bugging me for a while now – writing with anxiety!

The Sunday Post | Autism & Me

I may be writing this week’s Mailbox Monday at 10.45pm on Monday but it still counts and I even tore myself away from the calling of the Sims to bring it to you in time! It was my 26th birthday yesterday so all of my blogging plans for the weekend just gone went entirely out of the window so I really wanted to try to keep to my new schedule at least a little bit and, as it is Autism Awareness Month, I wanted to speak to you about something very personal and important to me – being autistic.

April TBR | Autism Awareness Month & My Birthday!!

April is the best month of all because it’s my birthday and it’s right in the middle of the month so I always try to get away with not doing things “because it’s my birthday”. I’ve had a few people ask me about buying me gifts for my birthday – if you would like to buy me anything then you can check out my amazon wishlist! My birthday is April 15th 🙂 That’s right – I am the most irritating combination of a Gryffindor AND being an Aries.

April is also awesome because its Autism Awareness Month! Sadly, I don’t usually see as many people talking about Autism Awareness Month as they do about other awareness months so I want to try to do some Autism themed posts to celebrate the month!

Disney Values and Job Rejections

Last week I went for an interview with an award-winning research agency for a position as a junior research intern for 3 months, with the high likelihood of a full-time job upon completion. Now, any other graduating students know how invaluable (and rare) well-paid internships are, let alone well-paid internships which aim to hire their interns at the end of the process. Often interns end up getting used as free labour, are expected to work long hours in order to gain much sought after skills including tea-making and photocopying, and after putting their blood, sweat and tears into their internship in the hopes of a job usually end up getting turned out the door at the end so that the organisation/business/corporation can move onto the next desperate graduate.

As a result, I had never really had any interest in doing an internship before, given how exploitative they often are. So what drew me to this one?
