E3 2019 | EA Play Highlights

Watching E3 in our house has become a beloved annual tradition and, as a gamer, it is a staple event in my calendar. One of my favorite parts of E3 2017 was doing my presentation write-ups. Although I never got around to writing up E3 2018 (thanks to too much Dragon Age 4 hype and Twitter speculating), it’s something I definitely wanted to do again this year. E3 2019 got off to a bit of a confusing start for me in terms of working out what presentations were happening and when, but I managed to catch up with the first ‘briefing’ – EA Play – last night.

Unlike many of the other companies presenting at E3, EA stepped away from delivering presentations to some kind of relaxed, live-stream event away from the E3 conference center. Whilst it helps to make their session more varied and allows fans to spend more time with each game, it wasn’t quite as exciting to watch. In all, EA Play showed 6 games: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Apex Legends Season 2, Battlefront V, Fifa 20, Madden NFL 20, and The Sims 4. As I was only interested in 3 of these (Jedi Fallen Order, Apex Legends, and The Sims 4), those will be the ones I’ll be sharing today!

Games I Want to Play in 2019

As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, I’m a gamer as well as a reader! However, my gaming often gets put aside for reading so one of my goals for this year was not only to play more video games but also blog more about video games. Although I already write articles for Sidequest, a great website which focuses on the unconventional in gaming and centers marginalized voices, I want to share more about gaming here on my blog as well. Video games have always been such a huge part of my life, so much so that I am (hopefully) doing a PhD about them, and so I’m aiming to make a lot more time for them in 2019.

Inspired by Becca and Destiny‘s posts, I thought it would be cool to kick off my video game blogging and the year with a little list of the backlist and new release games I’m looking forward to playing in 2019. Obviously this isn’t the entire list because I don’t want to keep you here all day, so if you’re curious ask in the comments.

Wrap Up | June 2017

Welcome to my first ever monthly wrap up for June!

I had so many plans of all the blogging I would do over the summer, but unfortunately, June turned out to be a not very fruitful month for blogging. I feel like being involved in not one but two blogs, as a blogging noob, was a bit of an ambitious project as I’ve found it quite difficult to manage to post content for both this blog and corralling the other 3 members of the Happy Homo Book Club every week. Not to mention trying to do this on top of desperately applying for jobs as my last student loan payment begins to drain away, write my dissertation, deal with everyday life, leaving the house every so often, coping with my depression & anxiety, and of course, trying to keep up with reading and gaming! *gasps for breath* But, it is what it is. I’ll use it as a learning experience and try to work around it for next month. So here’s what I *did* manage this month.

What I’m most excited about at E3 2017: Xbox Conference

Anyone who knows me will know that I am not a massive fan of Xbox, and their presentation at E3 did nothing to change that, even with their announcement of their new Xbox One X console which they dub “the most powerful console in the world”. Whilst I admire (and snark on) their enthusiasm and release of a diverse array of Xbox “exclusives” which suit a wide range of audiences, there is nothing in there makes me gasp and go “I must immediately sell everything I own to get me the new Xbox One X console”. So, whilst I have provided a list below of the games that excited me most at the Xbox One X conference, it’s good to bear in mind that these are ‘Launch “exclusives”‘ aka we just got to announce the game, or ‘Timed exclusives’ meaning that they will be quickly available on other consoles, if they not immediately.

What I’m most excited about at E3 2017: EA Conference

Event reviewsWatching E3 every year has become somewhat of a tradition in our house since we first discovered it just a few years ago and I’m super excited to be able to live tweet my reactions and compile all these emotions into blogs this year. This years E3 is running from Saturday 10th June until Tuesday 13th June 2017, kicking off tonight with the EA conference. So, without further ado here are some of my highlights from the EA conference and what I’m most excited about.
