Top 10 Tuesday | Spring TBR

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly book tag that was run by The Broke and the Bookish but has now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week she provides a different bookish theme those deep-seated desires to list! Anyone is welcome to join in on their blog, in the comments or any other way.

I haven’t done a Top 10 Tuesday post in what feels like forever, in fact, the last one I did was at the end of January! However, after seeing everyone else’s TTT posts today with their Spring TBR’s I felt inspired to join in for this week’s prompt. You know me, I can never resist an opportunity for a good TBR list!

Recently I’ve been feeling a lot of pressure over what I “should” be reading – my ARCs, my backlist books, my owned books… – and it’s been taking some of my enjoyment out of reading. Obviously there are quite a lot of books I “should” be including here on my Spring TBR but I want this to be a TBR of Spring goodness and fun rather than misery and pressure!

aurora rising

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (ARC)

One of the few ARCs I don’t feel much pressure over reading because holy hell am I excited to read this. I still have to pinch myself over my physical ARC because I still can’t believe it. I’ll be reading this next month!

summer bird blue

Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman (ARC)

Another ARC I feel no pressure over because I’m over the moon about it. You should all know by now how much of a fan I am of Akemi Dawn Bowman and I’ve been highly anticipating Summer Bird Blue since its US release.

the poet X

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo (Owned)

I recently got a copy of The Poet X from a friend and I can’t wait to read it. I’ve heard nothing but amazing reviews of it and it seems like the perfect Spring time read.

living a feminist life

Living a Feminist Life by Sara Ahmed (Wishlist)

I’ve wanted to read this since it was first published, as well as some of Sara’s other books, but sadly have never gotten around to it. I’ve included Living a Feminist Life on my birthday list for next month so fingers crossed I’ll have my own copy to read soon.

Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes? by Holly Bourne (Owned)

I hadn’t been planning on this Spring TBR to include so much YA Contemporary but for some reason it feels like the perfect genre for Spring. I’ve had AWALS since YALC last year but we all know how well my YALC reading went…

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (Owned)

The wonderful Lauren bought this for me for Christmas but I haven’t read it yet thanks to being buried under all my ARCs. Again, this seems like the perfect Spring/Summer read and I can’t wait to read the book after loving the Netflix movie.

dream daddy
Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator by Leighton Gray and Vernon Shaw (ARC)

This is another ARC but how could I not include it in my Spring TBR. I’m loving graphic novels at the moment and this seems like a really fun, light Spring-time read.

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill (Wishlist)

This one is also on my birthday list and I’m crossing all my fingers and toes for it. I love the look of Katie O’Neill’s books and basically want to read ALL OF THEM. Also picnics + tea + dragons = perfect Spring.

The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall (Owned)

I bought a copy of The Well of Loneliness during a trip to Gay’s the Word last week as part of my recent inspiration to read more classic Queer literature. I made a goal to read books soon after I buy them so hoping to get to this soon.

the wicked and the divine

The Wicked and The Divine Vol. 1 by Kieron Gillen (Wishlist)

Another one I’ve been waiting ages to read and hoping to get for my birthday. I’ve been waiting to read this for over 2 years and keep hearing so many good things about it. Plus, Spring is clearly the time for graphic novels!

  1. I feel what you say about the pressure and what we “should” be reading. I love writing TBRs but at the same time I don’t want to feel obligated to read certain books.
Summer Bird Blue is one I want to get to too, maybe this summer – I’ve only heard good things about this novel and Bowman’s writing.
And I hope you like The Poet X! It made me change my mind about poetry novels.

  2. These all sound great! Don’t feel pressured to read certain books: at the end of the day what makes your blog special is that it’s all about you and your reading opinions 🙂 hope you enjoy your reading!

  3. Great TBR! I really liked The Poet X so much and going into it I wasn’t sure if I would. I read the books for To All the Boys before I watched the Netflix movie and it made me really not like the movie, sadly. I hope you enjoy the book. I loved the books, but movie, not so much. I have reasons, but I don’t want to talk about them in case they are spoiler-ish, haha.

    1. I started reading the Poet X today and am already in love with it. I had convinced myself that I didn’t like poetry but this book is blowing me away.

And ooh, that makes me really curious! I’ll be interested to see how reading the book will compare to the movie now

  4. I know what you mean about the “should be reading” pressure. I’ve managed to use March to do some backlist reading, and I’ve been enjoying my reads immensely, but the whole time in the back of my head I’ve got that voice going “but what about alllll those other books? The ones that released this week or you just got the ARC and everyone is talking about it on Twitter?” Hope you have a good few months of spring reading!

    1. Thanks, I hope so too! Thankfully March was my busiest ARC month and I only have 2 in April and 1 in May, and have promised myself I’m not requesting anymore ARCs for a few months to give myself a break. I think we sometimes forget how much pressure ARCs can be and that reading them when they come out is TOTALLY an option.

There are a few coming out like the dragon republic that I was tempted by, but I’d rather read those for enjoyment than to review anyway! (I do have about 10 ARCs still to catch up with from last year though D’:)

      1. I’m still very susceptible to shiny book syndrome and find it very hard not to slam the request button, but I’m being better limiting myself to requesting MUST HAVEs over “that kind of looks interesting.”

  5. The Well of Loneliness! I haven’t read it yet, but it was translated to Hungarian only in 2016, and I own a copy. (I traded my copy of Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda for it :D)

  6. “I’ve been feeling a lot of pressure over what I “should” be reading”
This is EXACTLY what happened to me. So after I got caught up on Netgalley at least, I took a bit of a break and read what I wanted for a couple of weeks. Book blogging is tough sometimes, the pressure! Don’t forget it’s all about loving books and reading what you love is part of that. 🙂

I want to read The Tea Dragon Society too, it looks so cute! Also, my husband just surprised me with the card game, and I can’t wait to play it. 🙂

    1. Yes, for sure! This month I allowed myself to pick up a few non-TBR books in between my ARCs and remembered how much I love just being able to pick up a book and read it for enjoyment! With the exception of my 2 ARCs for next month (and 1 in May), I’m banning myself from requesting anymore ARCs so I can have a break from them and the pressure.

Ahhh that’s so cool! I love the look of the card game
