Wrap Up | April: Autism Awareness Month

Every month I start up with such blogging optimism and planning but it never seems to quite work out how I wanted it to go! I did get 9 books read but 4 of them were graphic novels and only 1 of them was themed around Autism Awareness Month which I didn’t get to review in time before the end of the month. I’ve not been doing too great with actually reviewing things on time so this is definitely something I want to work on next month. Over the next month, I am also hoping to continue my blog redesign so it should be a busy next month ❤

Book Haul

As April is my birthday month, I obviously got a lot of books – but they were presents so they technically don’t count 😉 Aside from all of those books which have bumped up my TBR list once again, I also inherited Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel from a colleague, bought Testing Pandora (Xandri Corelel #0) immediately after finishing Failure to Communicate, and was approved for 2 books on Netgalley which I couldn’t help but request; Blackfish City by Sam J. Miller and Free Chocolate by Amber Royer.

Possibly the most exciting book that I got this month though was my first ever physical arc which I got in the post a few days ago and it’s a book written by one of my friends, Mia, called Yes, You’re Trans Enough. You might have seen me blubbing about it on Instagram and/or Twitter, but honestly, this book is SO important and I’m super honored to have received a copy to review by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

Exciting News

1. I’ve been nominated now by about 5-6 people in the Second Annual Book Blogger Awards which are being held by Joce @ Write Through the Night. Thank you so much to everyone so far who has nominated me as Best Book Blogger from an Underrepresented/Minority Group. These awards are a fantastic way to support your favorite bloggers. Nominations close tomorrow so get your nominations in by tomorrow before the voting goes live on Twitter!
2. The other piece of news is something I am really excited but totally overwhelmed by. Thanks to Paper Cat Press’ Weekly Roundup post, I found out about an opportunity to apply for a free WorldCon 2018 ticket for LGBTQ+ people. I shot the email off thinking nothing of it because, hello it’s in America and I’m all the way over here in the UK. The next day I got a response saying that they would love to offer me a ticket to come to WorldCon in San Jose! I am literally still reeling. I’ve only ever been abroad a handful of times throughout my life as I come from a low-income family but haven’t left the country in over 10 years, and definitely have never been away on my own! I’m really nervous and I’m not sure if I will 100% be able to go as I will need to do a hell of a lot of fundraising to actually be able to afford the travel and accommodation costs, but if I could it would be so amazing!
3. And one last tiny thing to celebrate – I finally got over 80% feedback score on Netgalley for the first time since having an account :’)
